The Sewage Treatment Plant, which will serve the Santa Marta and Barra do Sahy neighborhoods in Aracruz, was inaugurated on April 12 in the presence of Governor Mr. Renato Casagrande, CESAN President Mr. Carlos Aurélio Linhalis, and President of Estaleiro Jurong Aracruz Mr. Thangavelu Guhan, as well as other authorities, Jurong Aracruz Shipyard employees and community leaders.
The Sewage treatment plant (ETE) was built in compliance with the Social and Environmental Term of Commitment, in fulfillment of Condition 22 of the Installation License of the Jurong Aracruz Shipyard. The investment made by Jurong Aracruz Shipyard is about R$ 12 million reais.
The Station
The ETE has a modern and reliable biological sewage treatment technology, which guarantees efficiency and low operation & maintenance costs. It was built by Paques, from Brazil, a Dutch effluent treatment company,, and is sized to serve a population of 20,000 residents.
The construction work which started in January 2020, been completed in two years period and been handed over to CESAN for operation, care and control.
The Treated water has a higher quality than that required by Brazilian standards, and can be used for agriculture, gardening, and industrial services.
The system also includes a 360-meter underwater emissary to discharge the water into the sea, ensuring distance from the coastal area.
Quality of Life and Environment
The Sewage Treatment Station is an important milestone for the community, the municipality, the Jurong Aracruz Shipyard, and a contribution from everyone for preserving the environment, improving the quality of life, and tourism along the Aracruz waterfront, which can now use a clean beach that is free of sewage contamination.
